let chandan's mother's present age be : x

and that of chandan's be :y

according to the question,

x=6y-------eq 1

after 5 years,

y+5=1/3x-----eq2

substitute eq 1 in eq 2,

y+5=1/3×6y

y+5=2y

2y-y=5

y=5

THEREFORE CHANDAN'S PRESENT AGE IS:5 YEARS

Substitute y=5 in eq 1,

x=6(5)

=30

therefore mother's age is 30 years

MOTHER'S AGE=30 YEARS

CHANDAN'S AGE=5 YEARS
