Environmental conservation and awareness programmes are taking a centre stage in many cities of India. The Chandigarh Bird Club has recently organised a workshop on the promenade of Sukhna lake. The workshop is organised to create awareness and interest in students about the birds and their behaviour. Sukhna lake being a haven for many local and migratory birds is a centre of attraction in Chandigarh.
There were 20 participants including students and bird lovers who attended the workshop. As part of the event, the famous ornithologist Dr. Sukhdev Sinha enlightened the participants with information about various birds which visited the lake every year. He also screened a documentary on the same topic. The participants were then taken on boats for a ride to observe the birds which flocked to the lake. Different bird calls were shown to the participants who learned the techniques with ethusiasm. Dr. Sukhdev and his team distributed booklets containing important information about the birds and their behaviour.
The workshop ended with a small dance programme that was presented by school children about the importance of nature.
