Active Voice refers to a sentence in which the subject is performing an action.

Passive Voice voice refers to a sentence in which the subject undergoes the action. In other words, it is writing the sentence in reverse order.

Example: Ryan is buying a house. (Active)

A house is being bought by Ryan. (Passive)

NOTE: Sentences that convey habitual actions cannot be changed to passive mode.

a) Men have been ruined by gambling.

  • Gambling has ruined men.

b) A blind man was knocked down by a bus.

  • A bus knocked down a blind man.

c) I was frightened by a angry look.

  • An angry look frightened me.

d) He was made a general.

  • They made him a general.

e) Let this letter be posted.

  • Post this letter.

f) The mouse was caught by a trap.

  • A trap caught the mouse.

g) A gift was bought for her by her friend.

  • Her friend bought her a gift.

h) My purse has been stolen.

  • Someone has stolen my purse.

i) A new company has been floated.

  • They have floated a new company.

j) English is spoken all over world.

  • People speak English all over the world.

You'll notice that in sentences d), h), i) and j), a doer has been added. This is because, in Active Voice, a doer is required.
