Indirect : Rama asked Hari if he would change pieces with him.

More information :

Direct narration :

  • It contains the actual words of the speaker.
  • The reported speech is put within inverted commas.
  • The first word of reported speech starts with a capital letter.

Indirect narration :

  • It reports the speaker's speech without repeating the actual words.
  • Here, inverted commas are not used.
  • The comma which is dividing by reporting verb from reported speech is removed.
  • The tense of reporting verb is never changed.
  • All kinds of sentences are changed into assertive sentences.
