Concept ::

Here the concept of sentence transformation has been used. We see that we are given a set of affirmative (positive) sentences where we have to change them into negative sentences. But we have to keep in mind that, while transforming the sentences in negative form we don't have to change their original meaning. For doing this, we can add some new words which will help us to keep the meaning of the sentences as it is given.

Let's do it !!

Solution :-

1.) Great men make a sacrifice when necessary.

Answer.) Great men do not make a sacrifice, when it is not necessary.

Reason :: We have been given a sentence which means that whenever there is a necessity, great men make a sacrifice. So while transforming it to a negative sentence we have changed it is great men do not make a sacrifice when it is not necessary which is same as the given statement.

-----------------------------------------------------------

2.) Karim is taller than Sohan.

Answer.) Sohan is not as taller as Karim.

Reason :: We have been given sentence that means as Karim is taller than Sohan. So after changing it into as negative sentence we made it as Sohan is not as taller as Karim which means same as the given question.

-----------------------------------------------------------

3.) Gopal is very careful about his studies.

Answer.) Gopal is not at all careless about his studies.

Reason :: We see that we are given a sentence which means same as Gopal is very careful about his studies. So while changing it into negative transformation, we have added a word careless with not which means the same as the given sentence.

-----------------------------------------------------------

4.) As soon as we came out, it started raining.

Answer.) It was not raining, until we came out.

Reason :: We are given a sentence which means as it started raining as we came out. Now while changing it into as negative sentence, we added a word until with the negative verb which means that until they came out it wasn't raining which is same in meaning as question.

-----------------------------------------------------------

5.) Can you touch the sky ?

Answer.) You should not think that you cannot touch the sky.

Reason :: We see that we are given a interrogative sentence, which means that you can touch the sky. Now while changing it into negative transformation, we need to keep the meaning same as that you shouldn't think that you can't touch the sky.

-----------------------------------------------------------

6.) Only good boys are successful.

Answer.) Boys who aren't good, are not successful.

Reason :: We see that we are given a sentence which means that only boys who are good are successful. Now we have changed it into negative transformation by adding a negative word and verb which makes the sentence as same meaning as the given one.

-----------------------------------------------------------

7.) He helped me in my need.

Answer.) He didn't refuse to help me in my need.

Reason :: We are given a sentence which means as he helped me when I needed. So we have changed the given sentence in negative by adding a negative verb and a word refuse which didn't change the meaning of the given sentence.

-----------------------------------------------------------

8.) Fortune favours the brave.

Answer.) Fortune doesn't favours the one who aren't brave

Reason :: We see that we are given a sentence which means that only braves are favoured by fortune. Thus we have changed the given sentence in negative form by adding negative verbs which keeps the meaning of negative sentence same as the given sentence.

Rules for changing the transformations ::

  • There should not be initial change in meaning of the sentence.

  • Subject should be place in accordance to the sentence formed.

  • The verb shouldn't be changed, instead it should be changed only into negative form.

  • New words can be added only in some cases and not every time.

  • Those new words should provide correct and opposite meaning, to the given sentence, when used with verb .
