★ Direct speech – Saying a conversation directly by using the exact words of the speaker is known as direct speech. While writing, the original words of the person should be always written inside inverted commas.
- Example:- I said, "I will be going to school from tomorrow".
★ Indirect speech – It can be defined as, saying something what the speaker had said but by making some modifications. Inverted commas (“ ”) should be ignored while writing. It must be in past tense except in two cases:
(a) If it's a universal/general verity.
(b) If it's reporting verb is in present or future tense.
- Example:- I said that I would be going to school from the next day. [Here, the indirect speech of the example given for direct speech has been found].
