- In changing a sentence from direct into indirect speech, all double inverted commas are removed.
- The sentence is changed into past tense.
- It is written in third-person reference.

In English the sentence are active or passive , direct or indirect.
Rules for changing direct speech into indirect speech:-
- In simple sentences that is used as a linker.
- If the reporting verb is in past tense then the main verb of the dialogue is also changed accordingly.
- If the reporting verb is in present or future tense the tense of the direct speech is not changed.
- Also in case of universal truth the sentence cannot be changed.
