✓ Indirect speech is the act of reporting the direct speech by making some necessary changes into it.

Some rules followed by direct and indirect speech:-

⊙ Direct speech:-

• The direct speech is always enclosed within double inverted commas (" ").

• The reporting verb and the speech must be separated by a comma (,)

• The first letter inside the inverted commas must be capital.

⊙ Indirect speech:-

• The inverted commas must be removed.

• The comma separating the reporting verb and the direct speech must be removed.

• The indirect speech must be introduced by connectors like:- that, whether, if, etc.

• The tense of the reporting verb must not be changed.
