Indirect/Reported Speech refers to a dialogue being said to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.

Example: I said,"Do you have a pen?" (Direct)

I asked if he had a pen. (Indirect)

In the above example, when writing in indirect/reported form, the sentence changes according to its tense. Also, modifications regarding certain words like 'this' changes to 'that', 'today' changes to 'that day', 'yesterday' changes to 'the previous day' and many other words will have to be made. If the dialogue is a question, then 'said' changes to 'asked'. Also note that punctuation marks other than a full stop (.) cannot be used in indirect speech.

1. Nina told John to go and see what she had found.

2. My father warned me not to ever do that again.

3. Kamala requested her student to do her homework regularly.

4. He requested her to bring her a glass of water.

5. He told him not to waste his time.
