iii) He said,“ She must complete her task today.” [ Direct Speech]

  • He said that she must complete her task that day. [Indirect speech]

iv) My friend told me that he had been to Spain. [ Indirect speech]

  • My friend said to me, I was to Spain. [ Direct Speech]

★ The inverted commas are omitted in the Indirect speech.

★ The tense of the reporting verb should never be changed.

★ We use a joiner or linker before the Indirect speech.

★ The first letter within inverted commas will not remain capital after changing narration.

★ The pronouns should be changed according to the sense of the speech.
