Answer:mr james Herriot is a very important character in the story.He is a veterinary doctor by profession . He loves animals, especially dogs .He has many dogs in his household. He is very concerned about the animals and their health . When he gets to know that Tricki's mistress is not properly taking care of him and his health is getting worse he decides to take him to the surgery. He is also very intelligent and uses his comman sense. He knows that Tricki doesn't need any medicinal treatment .He just needs a cut off in his diet. So the doctor gives him no food but plenty of water and exercise which ultimately improves his health and he becomes a lithe and hard muscled dog from a hugely fat dog.This was possible only because of James's intelligence and comman sense
