Chapter 6: Reactivity

Worksheet: Properties of Metals

The following list contains some statements about the properties of metals and non-metals. Underline the statements that are properties of metals.

Most are solid at room temperature.                                 They make a ringing sound when hit.

They do not conduct heat energy well.                            They are malleable.

They are dull.                                                                      They are brittle.

They conduct heat energy well.                                       They do not shatter.

They conduct electricity.                                                   Most do not conduct electricity.

Many are gases at room temperature.                           They are shiny

      They are ductile.

Answer:

last question answer..Freshly cut sodium metal has a bright, shiny surface due to the oscillations of free electrons that quickly becomes a dull grey as it reacts with oxygen in the air around it. Over time, the metal becomes covered with a white crust of sodium oxide that prevents further reaction of the metal and oxygen.
