This concluding chapter discusses the implications of reform trends for political development in the Asia-Pacific region and for new democracies in other parts of the world. It is argued that there is indeed an emerging Asian model of democracy — but one that has little relationship with the political restrictions advocated by the region’s now-retired autocrats.
