1. What are the types of structure in the medieval period?

Answer:- The types of structure in the mediaeval period were:-

  1. Romanesque: these kinds of structures included large inside spaces.
  2. Gothic: these kinds of structures included lonh height.

2. What is shikhara?

Answer:- The highest roof of Indian temples is known as Shikhara. It is a tower like structure on the top of temples. These kind of buildings require careful planning in its construction.

For example, on the top of a temple called 'garbhagriha', a tower known as shikhara was constructed.

3. What is pietra-dura?

Answer:- Petra dure is a historical art. In this art, the stones are cut with pieces of colored stones, and are inlaid and carved with this method. It's a kind of decorative art.

At Shah Jahan's time, Taj Mahal construction used this method of art.

4. What do you understand by "Village of the Incline"?

Answer:- The village of incline is Charupallam. It was a village near the temple. It's well known as 'village of the incline' because the architects built an inclined path to the top of the temple there.

5. Which prized statues were seized from defeated rulers by Rajendra I?

Answer:- He defeated the rulers and seized prized statues from defeated rulers.

The statues included:-

  • a sun pedestal statue from the Chalukyas.
  • a statue of Lord Durga and Ganesha.
  • a statue of Lord Kali from Bengal.

Then , he put these seized statues in Shiva temple for decoration purpose.

6. What was specific with Chaharbagh?

Answer:- Some of the most beautiful chaharbhag was constructed by Shah Jahan and Jhangir in Agra. Chaharbhag were four gardens, they were divided into 4 quarters. These four gardens were placed in a rectangular wall.
