◆ *What Do you understand by the term Life?*

Life is a unique and complex organization of molecules that express itself through chemical reactions which lead to growth, development and reproduction.

The objects exhibiting growth , development, responsiveness and some other characters of life is called as living beings.

◆ Characteristic of living?

1) Highly organised cellular structure
2) Consciousness
2) Growth
4) Reproduction
5) Metabolism

The process of finding a correct name and placing it in a system of classification is called as Identification.

∆ Nomenclature :-

The science of providing a unique name that will be known all across the world is known as Nomenclature.

∆ Classification :-

Placing of an organism or a group of organism in categories according to a particular system which is based on certain easily observed and fundamental characters are classifications.

◆ Binomial classification :-

A classification developed by Carolus Linneus.
According to it in the scientific naming , first word is for generic name and second name represents Species name.

◆ Systematics is the science that deals with diversity of organisms and and their comparative and evolutionary study.

◆ All the living organisms are classified into various groups based on their Characteristic according to the principles of Identification, nomenclature and classification. This branch of study is known as Taxonomy.

◆ Taxonomic hierarchy is also called as Linnean hierarchy.

● Species :- Groups of individual who are morphologically similar and able to breed among themselves.

● Genus :- One or more species are together called as Genus.

● Family :- One or more Genus are together called as family.

● Order :- One or more Families are together called as order.

● Class :- One or more related orders. are together called as Class.

● Phyllum / Division :- One or more groups of classes are together called as Phyllum or Division.

● Kingdom :- One or more Phyllum are together called as Kingdom.

1) Herbarium :-

A collection of plants that are usually dried , pressed and preserved on the sheets of reference.

2) Botanical gardens :-

Collection of living plants maintained for reference.

3) Zoological parks :-

Enclosed area where animals are kept.

4) Museum :-

A place where storage, preservation and exhibition of objects of natural history , arts and objects of natural antiquities.
