Amelia Slater is quite greedy and acquisitive by nature. She is quarrelsome, overbearing and
dominating. She is blunt and outspoken. She is prepared to do any amount of straight talking to
get her own way. She can be impolite if not downright rude. She is insensitive to the feelings of
others.

 

Henry Slater is a submissive person ordering on being a hen-pecked husband. He humbly follows
the dictates of his wife. Much against his will, he has to put on grandfather’s slippers and help
his wife in bringing grandfather’s bureau downstairs. Amelia has no hesitation to tell a lie, but
he’s not that rotten. Amelia is prosaic and moneyminded. Henry is poetic and feels embarrassed
when he is forced to tell lies.
