This story is taken from ‘Adventures in two Worlds’, an autobiographical novel of Dr.A j Cronin. It is an anecdote from his experience as a surgeon in the Royal Navy of the Great Britain.

In 1914 he entered Glasgow University to study medicine, but his studies were interrupted by World War I, in which he served in the British Navy as a surgeon sublieutenant.
