The role of Ajith reflects a kind of person who can not trust any woman, and considers female gender lower to him. He do not take care of the privacy of women and believes he possess all kind of rights on women. He thinks women has no courage and can not do anything that can harm him.

Answer:

Character sketch of Ajit  in Matchbox

Matchbox is the story of a married couple Ajit and Nomitha.Ajit married Nomitha because of her beauty. He is extremely arrogant and dominant. He is very selfish and gives no privacy to his wife.He has the habit of opening his wife Nomitha's mail and reading it.He says that it is his right to check it to see if she has a lover.Even if she questions about it he would laugh or scold her.His attitude towards Nomitha's mother is awful. When there is a letter from her mother,he says sarcastically to find out a money order form.To suppress his behaviour problems,he highlights Nomitha's family and back ground saying that she is dungpicker's daughter and now a queen only because he married her.Though he is from a rich family, his behaviour towards Nomitha seems not up to his status.

Towards the end of the story, Nomitha burns the anchol of her sari.He was frightened to see it and immediately he puts out the fire.It is clear that Ajit is dominating nature outwardly whereas he fears inwardly when Nomitha asserts her rights and tried to break the shackles of her domestic slavery. He is presented here as a man who always tried to keep his wife under his control and thus becomes a typical male chauvinist.
