Aram is the narrator of the story, and serves as the moral center. He is an Armenian boy who belongs to the Garoghlanian family. He is 9 years old. He is very mindful of doing the right thing, while understanding the financial conditions of his family. He does not seek to disturb the balances of his family or of the community. He loved horses very much and longed to ride one. Then when he and Mourad got to ride the horse, which Morad brought, he knew, what they were doing was not perfectly right. Still they were not selling the horse he had some guilt in his mind at first. But when he came to know that the horse belonged to the farmer, he asked Morad not to give it back until he learnt to ride alone. This tells us that he had a double mindedness.
