The lady described in the story lives in a house with an old lady cook. She is a good woman and kind at heart. She takes home the helpless baby bear and feeds him on milk. The lady tames the bear like her own son, punishing it when it disobeys, like climbing the tree or disturbing the beehive.
She is very fond of animals and has good knowledge about them, which can be seen in the way she feeds the bear daily with an apple and vegetarian food. She is also a bold woman as she decides to tame a bear on her own. She is not afraid to walk through the forest alone.
