Portia thinks that county palatine is not bothered about her and he might say if Portia does not want to have him, she might marry anyone she likes. County palatine is in habit of listening merry and funny stories which can bring laughter on any face but he dares not to smile. Portia predicts that when he so sad at such a young age, then he will prove to be a weeping philosopher when he grows old. Thus, Portia doesn't want to marry him because her life will be full of philosophy and sadness if she marries county palatine.
