In the story " The snake and the Mirrors", the homeopath doctor has been portrayed as a person who can assess himself critically and humorously .He honestly admits that as a new practitioner of medicine, he could not earn much and had to rent a poor, rat- infested house without even the facility of electricity. He also admits a funny intent that he wanted to marry a fat and rich lady - doctor as it would help him run away without getting caught when he would make some silly mistake .This witty side of the doctor is seen again at the end of the story when he remarks that the thief did not take away his dirty vest because he had a sense of cleanliness.

In the chapter THE SNAKE AND THE MIRROR homeopath doctor had just started a medical practice but his earnings were very meagre. He has only sixty rupees in his suitcase along with shirt, dhotis and not so white vest. He lived in small rented room that was not electrified. It was full of rats. He is very poor and the only luxury he had was a black coat. He was a great admirer of beauty and he believed himself as handsome. He decided to shave daily to grow a thin moustache to look more handsome. He wished to keep a smile always to look better. He wanted to marry a women doctor who had plenty of money and a good medical practice. He also wanted a fat wife so that whenever he would make a mistake his wife would not be able to catch him. But in his real life he married a thin and slender person who could run like a sprinter. He was a foolish doctor because when a snake coiled itself on his arm he was afraid because who was not aware about the medicine what he use if the snake bites him.
