GEORGE
George is the one of the two friends of Jerome. He is the most sensible of the three. He has the following characteristics:
A Working Man: He is the only one to have a job. He is a bank clerk who works on Saturdays and so joins the boarding trip up the river.
Common intelligence: It is George's idea to take the river trip. His friends were initially surprised that he came up with such a sensible idea.
Lazy: He has a habit of sleeping a lot. He is teased by his friends for these characteristics. His tendency to sleep, sometimes creates funny situations. He is lazy, being the last to do anything required physical labour.
Foolish: One night, his watch stops and he wakes up in the middle of the night. He thinks that he is going to be late for work. George is not much intelligent and depends on others to lead him
Good-looking: He is a physically imposing man
Practical: George is quite practical as he is the one who makes lists of the things required on the boat
Drinking lover: He is always ready for a drink at anytime, anyplace.
strange dressing sense: he do not have a good dressing sense. It is shown when he wear a wild style cloth carrying a banjo.
Inability to laugh at himself: George loved laughing at others but did not enjoy when joke is on him.
Thus, in short George has some extraordinary and some stupid qualities. However he is a very important character of the novel.
