From the story "Adventures of Toto" we get to know that the narrator's  grandfather was a very jolly man who loved animals very much. He always used to pick the weirdest and most uncommon kind of animals which we usually do not see people pet. He had a tortoise,a pair of rabbits, a tame squirrel and for a while,the narrator's pet goat- which show his fondness of animals and birds. Though grandma didnt like the sudden intrusions by strange pets brought by grandpa, the later tried to keep toto in a secure place so that he could be brought to light when grandma was in a particularly good mood. Grandpa even enjoyed the pranks committed by toto and complemented on his cleverness and intelligence.
