Gratiano is a Christain. He is a friend of Bassanio. He is a coarse young man . he i a very loud person . When he starts talking nobody can stop him . He plays a fool in this play. When he is drunk he misbehave too much. This is in keeping with the ideas of the times that people are ennobled by following their betters . he also when stayed with bassanio he had a change in behaviour. He loved nerissa who lived in Belmont.

Gratiano is Bassanio's friend and a great talker. He helps to provide humour in the play by his witty and outspoken comments. He says the most daring things and his coarse remarks in the trial scene are both astonishing and disgusting. He is impulsive but good at heart
