Jessica was the only daughter of Shylock, the Jewish money lender . She  falls in love with Lorenzo a christian and Bassanio's friend  , with whom she later on elopes away. She is later on disinherited in anger  by her farther Shylock.
Before we think Jessica as a selfish daughter who breaks her father's heart, we must keep in our mind that life at Shylock's house wasn't great. It becomes worse when their servant Lancelot leaves. Shylock would always bark his orders on his daughter and on Lancelot.
She even trades out of her dead mother's turquoise ring for a monkey after running off  with Lorenzo.
