John a pescud was an ironic man who loved to be a critic of novels. he criticized the novel and said that it is fullof fantacitical content where he described it as marrying an. indian to a landlord in Massachusetts. later he followed the same path as the actor followed in the novel and married to the princess of a small town near Virginia

John.A.Pescud was a travelling salesman of a glass company. He is not a particularly good looking man. He is bald with a wide smile. Pescud believes that a man should marry a girl from his own background. He hates best sellers and criticises them for being unrealistic. Ironically, when we come to know about how he met his wife, Jessie, we are forced to think that is a cynic and a hypocrite. He believed that a person should marry another person if only they have equal backgrounds. However, being from the working class, he dared to propose to a beautiful lady who belonged to an aristocratic family. In short, we realise that Pescud's life itself is a best seller.
