Judy is a poor girl. She spent her childhood in an orphan asylum. She was wholly dependent on charity. When she finished school her guardian sent her to college. Here her new life starts. Judy is very excited, because she had not seen anything before , except the asylum. She writes her guardian that she likes everything there. She takes pleasure in every detail. She even mentions the food they eat there.(«We have ice-cream twice a week and we never have corn-meal mush»). She is happy about it because it is not the same food she ate at the asylum.
But with all this, she has some problems in studying. She had no possibility to study at the asylum, therefore she doesn`t know a lot of things . She is ashamed of this.( «The trouble with college is that you are expected to know such a lot of things you`ve never learned. It`s very embarrassing at times»). Judy is afraid of making mistakes. («…when the girls talk about the things I never heard of , I just keep still»). But in spite of everything she considers herself very bright( « And anyway, I`m just as bright in class as any of the others, and brighter than some of them»). She is not very modest. But she is confident in her powers . And she does much to prove that she is bright. She reads a lot and learns a lot of new things. She is a persistent girl and I think very capable.
I hope it will help you
