The Lost Child by Mulk Raj Anand is a story about a boy who is lost in fair when he is engrossed in roundabout swings. The parents of the child lose him and the affection and bond of love are shared in this story.

When the child is lost in the fair he encounters a very sympathetic and kind-hearted man. The man holds the child in his arms and asks him how he was lost. However, the child kept on weeping about his parents. The man tried to soothe him with every possible way. To soothe him he took him on horse ride and roundabout. He took the child to the place where the flute was being played by snake-charmer. Further, he bought child some sweets, flowers, and balloons. To make him quiet and to distract him, the man tried every possible way. However, the man failed in his aim and he showed that to the child his parents were the center and all the materialistic things were meaningless to him. The child didn't convey anything about his parents as the man tried his best to help the child. The story remains open-ended, assuming that the child might have found his parents.
