Answer:
The king in the story comes across as an honest, sincere ruler who sets out to
find answers to his questions. The kind of questions he has throws light on his
character. He wants to know what is right and wants to do what is right. His
sincerity becomes evident when, no answer satisfies him, he sets off in search
of the hermit. His dedication to his position as king of the land comes to the
fore here. He is down-to-earth and simple and he understands the
requirements of his people, as is evidenced from how he takes pains to dress
up as a commoner when visiting the hermit. He even chooses to leave behind
his bodyguard, which could have proven to be dangerous for him. He is ready
to do hard work and does not bother about simple jobs like digging the soil,
which he himself volunteered to do for the hermit. His patience is also another
of his qualities, which he demonstrates with his interaction with the hermit. He
remains patient and cool-tempered even though the hermit gives him no reply
to his questions. When the wounded man comes running, he immediately sets
to work, not thinking twice. He tends to him throughout and saves his life. This
gains him the man’s confidence and his loyalty later. By the end of the story,
his questions answer themselves through his deeds, as explained by the
hermit, which, in a way, points to the fact that he had internalized the answers
and had put them to practise even without knowing it, thus making him a
worthy king
