The king of luggnagg is shown be a power-loving king. In Luggnagg, it was a common practice for the visitors to kneel down on their knees and lick the floor as a sign of respect for the king. No one is allowed to see the king without his permission, he is greedy for praise and he wants everyone to speak good about him. It is a humorous aspect of the story when we see the king welcoming the messengers of his enemies to the court by getting the floor sprinkled with dust or poison. He is generous enough to present Gulliver with gold coins and a letter of recommendation to the king of Japan to facilitate his journey.
