Answers
Lavinia is the wife of Mr. John Hallock, the narrator. She has extravagant tastes for shopping and a tendency to buy every new fad. Lavinia likes to dominate her husband and does not care about her his instructions and intentions; despite his protests, she retains the Ouija Board and does not return it. She is also suspicious about women and doesn’t want even the ghost of Helen of Troy to be called upon the board. Lavinia is gregarious by nature, and enjoys partying with the women of her Book Club. She doesn’t want Gladolia to leave her house and for her sake, she is ready to sacrifice the Ouija Board. However, she is a loving and caring wife. In spite of her differences with the narrator, she does not leave him. She just threatens him she will go to her grandmother’s house; but her intention is Hallock should stop her from going. She is quite timid in nature as the very sight of cockroaches makes her scream.
