Lomov is a neighbour of Chubukov. He is a large and hearty fellow but is very suspicious. He is a young unmarried fellow. He visits Chubukov to propose to his daughter for marriage. He is a well-dressed for the occasion but is very excited. He doesn't have the courage to speak his heart to Chubukov. However, he speaks it but takes the matter in another direction. Natalya comes and both start fighting verbally over the ownership of Oxen Meadows. Both hold the ground to downgrade each other. The main issue of marriage takes a secondary place. So, Lomov gives more importance to other unimportant things. When he enters again he starts fighting over his dog Guess. It means that Lomov is more conscious of unrelated things than the important onces. He is, thus, a weak-hearted person and is given to palpitation. He is not ready to surrender. In, the end both agree to marry.
