Lorenzo is sub-character which is used by Shakespeare to plot a love story with Jessica. Their love story leads to Shylock's disappointment as she plans her elopement and gets eloped with Lorenzo , taking much of her father's wealth. This is an important scene as Shylock's losses run parallel with Antonio's losses. This is encourages Shylock's desire to take revenge from Antonio.
