Lucia was the beloved sister of Nicola and Jacopo. She had become seriously ill after their home was destroyed in a bomb explosion in the war. Due to starvation and extreme cold she suffered from tuberculosis of spine. Before the war, she had been training herself to become a singer. She was quite a brave girl; she had been fighting her illness and showing signs of recovery. It was being hoped that one day she would be on her feet and sing once again.
