Madame Defarge is a character from the historical novel A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.
She is said to be pessimistic in nature.
This is attributed to her witnessing the horrific rape of her sister which makes her feel that the repayment of the crime has to be done by the whole family of the perpetrator and not just the wrongdoer.
She is also shown to be inhuman as she wages a war against the Marquis’s family.
