The character of Mr. Hyman Kaplan was sketched by Leo Rosten in his collections of stories.

According to the story, Mr. Kaplan is an enthusiastic and hardworking student, who tries to learn spoken English in the night classes.

But he seems to be unable to learn English like others and takes too much time in learning the correct pronunciations.

But he is quite extrovert and self-confident in nature, for which sometimes he gets engaged in arguments with other classmates.
