Mrs. Myers character is highly enigmatic and ironic in the in the lesson ‘The Fortune Teller’ by Karel Capek. Mrs. Myers plays the central character.
She is a shrewd yet charming lady. She claims herself to be a great fortune-teller, well-educated and a stalwart in the field. But in reality she knows nothing of fortune telling. She has never studied astrology and predicts by general estimations and wit. But the way she fakes her identity people take it for granted that she is a great fortune teller.
Mrs. Myers is highly manipulative. She plans to accrue a good amount of wealth by charging her customers heftily and run away to get married. Her character mesmerises us when the police catch her and she is convicted guilty by making a false prediction to the police officer’s wife who is disguised as a young unmarried girl and eventually her prediction comes true we doubt our doubts of her character.
