Mrs. Van Daan the wife of Mr Van Daan and mother of Peter Van Daan, is potrated as selfish, quick tempered and argumentative lady. She often finds faults with others and has frequent arguments with her husband. Anne in her diary describes her as an instigator who tries to stir up trouble between the members of the Frank family. She is very critical of Anne's upbringing. She is considered as vain and cunning by Anne. She does not have any special affection for her son as shows no such behaviour. Anne does not like her but does mention one good side of her. One can talk to her and make her give in as long as one does not irritate her she also manages to get the best from the food table and keeps talking as she eats that makes people around her irritated.

Anne in her diary mentions the difference between Mrs Van Daan and her mother. They do not get along very well. Each one wants to save her personal belongings. Anne finds Mrs Van Daan. unbearable as she always criticizes her and her work. She even tries to flirt with Mr Frank and which gives insight into the superficial relationship that exist between Mr and Mrs Van Daan.

She too was arrested in 1944 however her date of death is unknown.

Mrs van daan belonged to the family that went into hiding with the Frank's. She was the only person that Anne couldn't stand . She was very quarrelsome and selfish. Mostly she instigated the fights.she got angry over triffles .Mrs van Dana very vain and lacking in humility .she was in the habit of hiding her things so that other people couldn't use it. Mrs van daan was also in the habit of criticising others. She was always getting mad at Anne's talking too much. She was jealous of Anne's relationship with her son ,Peter. She wanted Peter to confide in her rather than in Anne. She was lazy by nature and always tried to avoid doing dishes .Mrs van daan liked to flirt with Mr otto Frank while with her husband,she was always cross.accoding to Anne ,Mrs van daan was the most insufferable annex resident of them all.
