- It is a large and healthy gorilla with a good sense of humor.

- He also gains the attention of Durrel and others by his good nature and courteous manners.

- It becomes friends easily with the inmates of the Zoo within a short time which shows his sense of trust with others.

- Though initially, N'Pongo does not seem to be attracted to the female gorilla Nandy, he slowly develops a good relationship with her.
