The two boys in the story , Nicola & Jacopo, are the two 'gentlemen' of Verona. Nicola, aged 13, is the elder brother of Jacopo aged 12. Both of them are extremely sincere, devoted & self-sacrificing. they are ready to do anything to save their sister Lucia who is afflicted with tuberculosis. They lead hard life and do all sorts of jobs.
