Character sketch of Nomita's mother

       Nomita's mother wrote letters frequently to her daughter asking her to requires husband to send her some money. Although Nomita does not like doing this, she doesn't tell her mother. The mother is also unaware of Nomita's dislike for this and counting her to be self reliant without depending on money.

In each letter, Nomita's mother gave her a reason why she wanted money to be sent along with citing their misfortune. One reason that she gave often was that her house was in a miserable condition and she wanted to get it repaired because she was afraid that roof would collapse and she would die under it.
