Character sketch of Thomas Hardy from when I set out for Lyonnesse
Answers
Answer:
This poem is about the poet, Thomas Hardy, who had once visited a parish. He went there as a young apprentice architect to supervise the restoration of a church. When he returned from the parish, people noticed two things about him – a new glow in his eyes and a crumpled piece of paper sticking out of his coat pocket. That paper was recorded in one of his biographies and contained the draft of a poem. That poem was “When I Set Out for Lyonnesse” and was inspired by a visit to a place which the poet calls Lyonnesse. So, this poem describes how a single visit to a place brought so many changes in the poet’s life. To him, it was a wonderful experience that changed his life completely.
