Louis Courcet is the central character in the play. He is the miracle merchant.
He however does not get the reward for the only miracle performed by him in the play.
He is Mrs. Beauwhistle's nephew. He is not interested in earning a livelihood. He depends on his relatives.he must have been a permanent guest at the country-house of his aunt, Mrs. Beauwhistle. He is in the habit of asking for loans.
He has a brilliant mind. We feel that if he had used his mind in the right way, he would have become a great man. The plan devised by him to get Jane Martlet out of the house is really very brilliant. He prepares the ground nicely for frightening Jane by telling her about the working of the minds of those servants who stay long.
