Mukesh is a young boy born into a family of bangle makers in Firozabad, an area famous for bangles. All his family and all his neighbours were in the same business and he has never known any thing else. His grandmother believes that making bangles is the 'karam' or destiny of their family. However, daring to dream beyond his situation, Mukesh wants to be a motor mechanic. For that, he is willing to walk to the garage distant from his house and learn the trade. When the narrator asks him if he wants to fly a plane, he is embarrassed. But his age and innocence allows for it to remain an embarrassment, without turning into a regret.

\longrightarrow Mukesh is from Firozabad.

\longrightarrow Everyone in Firozabad is a bangle maker. People here believe that they have been asked to make bangles for the entire nation.

\longrightarrow They believe that bangles are associated with marriage, so bangle making is a divine work.

\longrightarrow The elders do not allow their children to look for any work other than Bengal making.

\longrightarrow On the other hand this blessed bangle makers are not happy in their lives. They starve. They became blind due to exposure to welding flames.

\longrightarrow They want to do more profitable and less hazardous work but they are discouraged from all sides.

\longrightarrow The police do not allow them to organise their own trade unions. If Firozabad boys dare to do anything they are beaten and dragged to prisons.
