The story “Happy Prince” is an allegory which represents the social class system of the Victorian society. it is about the wealth that the upper class of the society possessed and the poverty to which the poor people went through. The themes like social injustice, the redemptive power of love, and the loss of innocence are prevalent in the story. The story is about a Prince who never saw the sadness in his life. His life was full of joys and happiness and all his desires were fulfilled. After his death, a statue was made in which expensive jewelry and costumes were built upon. Everyone who has a look at the statue remarked that it is beautiful but is a useless piece of work. The statue felt very sad to see that the people were falling sort of every menial requirement in their life. A swallow became the messenger of the kindness of the statue which provided him shelter. He agreed to remove the jewelry from the statue in order to bring financial aid and relief to the people. This is a piece of allegory in which the characters are a representation of the people from the history. The swallow can be seen as Socialism who is willing to believe necessities to everyone so as to bring equality.
