Answer:

Stargirl' by Jerry Spinelli is a story about the impact one girl has on her peers at Mica Area High School. This is a lesson about Leo Borlock, one of those peers and the narrator of the story.

Susan Caraway, "Star Girl" is the most unique and the strangest girl at Mica High. Leo provides his first detailed description of Stargirl including her full length white dress, the ukulele hanging over her shoulder, and the large canvas bag with the sunflower, all of which distinguish her from the crowd. Other distinctive features include her pet rat, her habit of cheering even when the opposing team scores a basket, and her practice of singing "Happy Birthday" to students in the cafeteria.

She plays the ukele for people’s special occasions, and she makes everyone feel good about themselves. Even though people find her odd and don’t want to be friends with her, she continues to be herself through all of the insults.

She is the one that dares to be different. Her real name is Susan, and later Star Girl becomes Susan again because no one wants to be friends with her. People start to like Susan more because she is “normal” and this shows how shallow people are. They only accept the things they like.

Some of the other character traits of Star Girl that the other students witness are her friendliness, kindness, and originality. She is friendly because she sings to others in the lunchroom on their birthdays. She is kind because she not only cheers for the high school's team, but for the opposing team as well. More importantly, her originality shines through because of the way she dresses. She does not act like other teenagers—at least not at first. The conflict of a plot is the major problem experienced by the protagonist. In this novel, the major problem is the way Stargirl is treated as an outsider by the students and peers at her new high school.

Two lessons from Stargirl-- first is conformity, or behaving in a certain way because everyone else does. The second is individuality, being different and being one of a kind. When Stargirl Caraway starts school, her personality surprises everyone.
