Knowing the right characteristics

of a man with the proper scientific attitude is greatly important to cope

up with the developments in science. Some of the list of scientific attitudes are as follows: Curious, Open-minded,

Objective, Unbiased, Critical thinker, and Rational.

Before I discuss the importance

of each scientific attitude above,

let’s discuss first it’s meaning.

The values and norms practiced and internalized by a

scientist or any man of science is called a scientific attitude.

Curiosity gives a man the desire for knowledge, information

or ideas. This is usually the start for him to apply the other science process

skills.

Open-mindedness keeps a scientist from rejecting other

opinions or criticisms. Hence, this attitude makes him grow and learn from

others’ evaluation.

Objectivity makes a man factual and grounded. His desire for

evidences makes his work precise, accurate and trustworthy.

Unbiasedness keeps a man from showing favor or controlling

the results or outcome of his work. Like objectivity, it makes him more

trustworthy.

Critical thinking skills bring a scientist to a higher level

of thinking. It gives him the ability to answer questions or problems that are not

definite. Therefore, his ability to explore and analyze are strengthened.

Lastly, rationality gives a man the ability to reason in his

problem solving. Looking for causes or applying the cause-effect relationship

will make him more understanding to his environment.
