Administrative Town: These include towns or cities where kings or rulers establish their capitals and carry out the administration of the country.

A medieval town may be a Temple town, Administrative centre, Commercial town or Port town. Many towns had combined characteristics of all the above types of towns. For example, many towns were administrative centres, commercial and craft production centres as well as temple towns – all at the same time.

Commercial or port towns refer to those areas which are important centers of commercial activities where goods could be purchased and sold and towns located near the sea are hub of economic activities whereby goods could be traded via sea routes are referred as port towns.
