This matrix consists of organic components, mainly type I collagen – "organic" referring to materials produced as a result of the human body – and inorganic components, primarily hydroxyapatite and other salts of calcium and phosphate.

Some of the characteristics of bone are :-

*Bone is the most hardest part of the body and is composed of calcium and phosphorus.

*The bone producing cells are called as osteoblast. And the matured cells of bone are called as osteocytes.

*Bones are highly vascular.

*Mineralised (calcium, phosphorus)

*Has regenerating capacity.

*It forms the framework of the skeleton and give a proper and rigid shape to the body.
